Polyrhythmic Sequencer Architecture
Unlike standard linear step sequencers, The Traveller uses decoupled modulo math counters - a digital circuit or mathematical sequence that counts up to a specific number and then resets back to zero - for every individual drum lane and DPM 138 track. This allows a 7-step hi-hat to run against a 12-step kick drum and a 5-step analog bassline simultaneously, creating evolving geometric rhythms that take dozens of bars to repeat.
Humanized Drum Clocking
When using the Seeburg or TR-606 kits, the engine bypasses strict mathematical quantization. A dedicated humanization script adds real-time velocity variance (between 75% and 100% of maximum) and micro-timing delays. Kicks are delayed by 0-5ms to stay anchored, snares drag by 0-15ms, and hats slop up to 25ms late, forcing the Web Audio API into a naturally loose, laid-back pocket.
Formant Vocal Synthesis
The 3-Part Harmony engine doesn't use vocal samples. It routes raw sawtooth oscillator waves through three parallel, heavily-resonant bandpass filters (F1, F2, and F3). The engine parses your typed text, extracts the vowels, and dynamically shifts the cutoff frequencies of these three filters to match the exact acoustic resonant frequencies of the human vocal tract for 'A', 'E', 'I', 'O', and 'U' - or at least it attempts to! .
Software Automatic Mouth (S.A.M.)
The robotic voice is a direct client-side WebAssembly/JS port of the legendary 1982 S.A.M. speech synthesizer originally built for the Commodore 64. When you click 'LOAD TTS', the engine parses your text into phonemes, synthesizes a raw 8-bit Float32 audio array entirely in your browser memory, and converts it into a Tone.js AudioBuffer for playback.
Tape Wear Simulation
The Tape Wear slider controls two parallel Low Frequency Oscillators (LFOs) manipulating a master delay line. One LFO modulates at 0.3Hz to simulate slow mechanical "Wow" (motor drift), while the second LFO modulates at 8Hz to simulate fast "Flutter" (tape crinkle and capstan irregularities), mimicking the physical instability of magnetic tape.
Hyperspace Routing
Triggering Hyperspace activates a custom macro-script that simultaneously ramps the master BPM to half-speed, drives a 92% feedback loop into the delay sends of your targeted instruments, and forces the Master Pitch Shift node to dive -12 semitones over a 6-second window before automatically snapping back to zero.
